🕊 About St. Alphonsus Liguori

Saint Alphonsus Liguori (1696–1787) was born in Naples, Italy. A gifted lawyer in his youth, he left a promising career to dedicate his life completely to God. He was ordained a priest and later founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists), devoted to preaching the Gospel to the poor and most abandoned.

Alphonsus became a bishop and was widely respected for his wisdom, pastoral charity, and balanced approach to moral theology. He wrote extensively on prayer, the Eucharist, and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was declared a Doctor of the Church for his contributions to theology and spirituality.

He is remembered as a compassionate confessor and a powerful teacher of God’s mercy.

You suffered immensely and yet
still practiced God’s teachings.
Help me remember the suffering
of Jesus Christ when my
fingers ache or my joints are sore
with pain. Help alleviate my pain,
O great Saint, so that my arthritis
will either be abstained or cured
so that I may suffer no more.
